Design and access statements
Need to accompany applications
The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) (Amendment) Order 2013/1238
The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Amendment (England) Regulations 2013/1239
These two sets of regulations, which came into force on 25 June 2013, lessened the requirements relating to design and access statements ("DAS") in certain cases.
The Development Management Procedure Order reduces the types of applications which must be accompanied by a DAS and simplifies the content where a DAS is required. From 25 June, a DAS will only be required for major development or for certain developments in a conservation area or world heritage site.
Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas Regulations amend the content required in the DAS for applications under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Regulations 1990. The amendment removes the requirement for a DAS to address the principles applied to the scale, layout and appearance of a proposal.
