Building Societies Association

The Building Societies Association represents all 47 UK building societies, and mutual lenders and deposit takers across the UK. Conveyancers and solicitors acting for lenders will usually follow standard conveyancing instructions and any specific requirements of the lender providing the mortgage. The BSA provides standard mortgage instructions, which are used by 31 lenders including 27 building societies. To access the site click here

British Property Federation

The British Property Federation site contains a number of documents of interest to property lawyers including the Code of Practice for Commercial Leases and the Code of Practice on Service Charges in Commercial Property published by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. The site also gives access to the "BPF and BCO Model Clauses" which are intended for possible use in a fully repairing and insuring office lease of whole without service charge provisions. Council of Mortgage Lenders

The Council of Mortgage Lenders is the trade association for mortgage lenders in the UK. Its members undertake around 95% of UK residential mortgage lending. It represents the residential mortgage lending industry and provides some economic, statistical, legal, research and other market information. It also published the "CML Lenders' Handbook" which provides instructions for conveyancers acting on behalf of many lenders in residential conveyancing transactions. To access the site click here

City of London Law Society

The City of London Law Society produces a number of publications and precedent documents for use in commercial property transactions. These include two service charge precedents and their authoritative "Certificate of Title" together with explanatory notes. To access the site click here


Homes & Communities Agency

The work of the Homes and Communities Agency includes assistance with the funding of new affordable home developments. It also took over responsibility for the regulation of social housing providers in England from the Tenant Services Authority on 1 April 2012. To access the site click here


Leasehold Advisory Service

The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) is funded by the Government to provide free legal advice to leaseholders, landlords, professional advisers, managers and others on the law affecting residential leasehold property. The site gives access to copies of decisions of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal principally dealing with rights under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993, the Landlord and Tenant Acts 1985 and 1987 and the Leasehold Reform Act 1967. There is also a range of helpful material explaining the rights of leaseholders in relation to service charges, right to manage, collective and leasehold enfranchisement and other similar material. Office of Fair Trading

The OFT has drawn up guidance to assist those drafting standard contract terms in assured and shorthold tenancy agreements so as to ensure that they are not regarded as unfair under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. It also provides guides on some legislation including the Competition Act 1998, The Estate Agents Act 1979 and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. To access the site click here


Practical Law Company - Property Section

Practical Law Company is a subscription service providing support to lawyers. It also provides free access to the "Commercial Property Standard Enquiries" (CPSEs), these are standard form pre-contract enquiries produced by the London Property Support Lawyers Group and endorsed by the British Property Federation.
